Disney on Ice

We braved the weather and went to Disney on Ice today.  We almost didn't go, but my friend Heather drove and we made it!  Roads were trecherous, especially in Tipton.  I am thankful we made it there and back safely.

We had such a wonderful time! Mady loved seeing all the princesses, especially Ariel.  It was a great day and we were glad to share it with our friends Heather and Jessica.

Furniture Shortage?

I am wondering if the kiddos think there is a lack of furniture in our house.  Without fail, I sit down in my chair, they both pile on top of me.  I would think a couch and love seat would be more comfortable than my lap, but I must be wrong.  :)

Back to Life. Back to Reality.

After Christmas, Christmas break, and an additional week off due to the blizzard, we got back to a normal schedule today. Mady was so excited to go back to school and see her friends and teachers. I was glad to have a routine again.  Owen and I went to breakfast, the library, visited my mom at work, and finished up at Lowes to buy chalkboard paint for my next project.  :)  Owen loves the library but I'm not sure if it's because of the books or Clifford...

Sewing Projects

My mom generously got me a sewing machine for Christmas and I am loving it!  I think I am doing pretty good for a beginner.  I have made pillows for our family room sectional and made throw pillows for our bed this weekend.  I am very happy with how they turned out.  :)

Snowpocalypse 2014

We have been in the house for three and a half days.  The kids are getting little stir crazy, but otherwise, we are doing fine.  I am so thankful that we didn't lose power during the storm or during the freezing temps.  17.5 inches of snow and windchills of -40 below and we have been warm and safe inside our home.  We did get out Sunday morning to play before it got bad.  It was beautiful and perfect weather for playing outside.

Hello 2014

2014 came in quietly, with my little family fast asleep.  I stayed up as usual and enjoyed a little alone time, sewing, reflecting on the past year, and thinking about the upcoming one.  I am not one for resolutions but I did think about what I might want to do in 2014.  One trend is picking a word and making that your word for the new year.  I liked that idea and actually came up with three.

Still.
Simple.
Content.

Sometimes I feel like life goes by a mile a minute.  Busy, busy, busy.  We squeeze as much as we can into each day.  Go like the energizer bunny.  Sometimes, busyness is necessary.  I get that.  Like it even.  As I get older, I realize how necessary it is for down time.  Alone time.  Time to recharge.  Reenergize.  Time to just be still.  Rest.  Recuperate.  Be still.  I know I need it, so I am hoping to make it more of a priority.

Keep it simple.  Enough said.

It is so easy in this day and age to get caught up in the desire for more.  The biggest house, the newest car, the latest technology.  I always count my blessings, but lately, I have been counting them even more.  I hope to hang on to this feeling of contentment and carry it with me through 2014.

I also hope to update this little internet space of mine regularly.  Just to record life.  The funny things the kids say or do.  The sayings that really speak to me.  Hopefully, since I am keeping things simple, there will be time to do so.  :)

Wishing all my loved ones a very blessed and happy New Year.
